No Horizon
***Latest - Update April 2024***
The No Horizon tour was due to open in 2020 but during the dress rehearsal, the announcement was made that all theatre performances had to be stopped due to Covid. Having moved past the disappointment, work is ongoing to finally bring the show to a national audience in Autumn 2025.
The dream lives on!!
'No Horizon' is a remarkable new musical. Inspired by the astonishing true story of Nicholas Saunderson, it retells a human story of hope, resilience and aspiration. Touchingly told through music that will live long in the memory, it does more than entertain - it raises the spirit.
Andy Platt wrote No Horizon after becoming fascinated by the story of Nicholas, who was blinded by smallpox in infancy but went on to become a major player in the scientific and mathematical community of the age. The production was originally born as a community musical but created so much interest that it was taken to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016. Here it was performed at the Cowbarn, Underbelly to sell out (200+) audiences.
Subsequently we received generous funding from the Arts Council to undertake a Research & Development project with a view to creating an updated version for professional touring. This, coupled with support from the Barnsley Civic's Artist in Residence Programme, opened up the exciting possibility of the 2020 tour.
The 2020 tour was again funded by the Arts Council and very generously supported by the Foyle Foundation, the ultimate goal being to bring this remarkable forgotten story to a national audience. We want to restore Saunderson to his rightful status as a national icon. We would like to express a genuine MASSIVE thanks to all who have contributed to this project over the years. Your help has brought us this far - the dream lives on!!!
